Mel's Story

Hi, I’m Mel. In my day job I’m an English lecturer, and in my free time I’m an obsessive Birmingham City fan. I first stepped into Mystic Blue to support Alex—she’s the one behind all the amazing artwork and so many of the ideas. But as those early ideas grew, something unexpected happened: I started to see myself in the characters. Parts of their stories felt like reflections of my own life.

My life has been a bit of a roller coaster—full of highs, but also some very dark valleys. The stresses of everyday life led me into severe anxiety and depression, times that were incredibly hard to survive. Then, during Covid, I lost people very close to me. The strangeness and weight of that period left me with PTSD, a battle I’m still fighting.

That’s why the heart of Mystic Blue matters so much to me. Knowing you’re not alone is a huge part of that fight. Through the characters and their stories, and through the community we’re building, we shine a light into those shadows. Mystic Blue is a safe and sympathetic space to share, to bond, and to move from silence into storytelling together.
